Stanford’s commitment to diversity includes support for programs that help us achieve a diverse and successful graduate student body. The VPGE office funds student-led projects that promote diversity and offers competitive fellowships for students from diverse backgrounds, such as DARE and EDGE.

Competitive fellowships for doctoral students in their final two years of study who want to investigate and prepare for academic careers, and whose presence will help diversify the professoriate.
Fellowships by nomination for incoming doctoral students in education, engineering, natural and social sciences, and mathematics who will contribute to the diversity of their field or department and who aim to pursue an academic career.
Funds for innovative, student-led activities and events to expand the intellectual community of graduate departments, programs, or communities. Projects may be aligned with the VPGE office’s key areas of focus: diversity, interdisciplinary learning, or professional development.
Diversity and Inclusion Innovation Funds (DIF) is a pilot program that supports Stanford graduate students and postdoctoral scholars in the development of a project that will advance diversity within those populations.
Competitive research support for doctoral students studying diversity-related topics such as socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, and work or life experiences. Applications are accepted twice a year.
