Sabrina Ergun

I am a PhD candidate in the Department of Biochemistry working in the lab of Dr. Lingyin Li. My thesis work is focused on using biochemical and structural biology tools to develop a molecular map of a key innate immune pathway called the STING pathway. This pathway is poised at the crux between its essential role in fighting cancer and viral and bacterial infections and while potentially promoting and aggravating autoimmune and inflammatory diseases when overactivated. By elucidating the molecular details of this pathway, I will be able to develop strategies to target STING to treat disease. I am additionally using my final year at Stanford to continue to develop my teaching and mentorship skills through the Women in STEM mentorship program, the Teaching to Transgress workshop, and the PFP program. Outside of lab, I spent most of my time working on a horse farm, riding and taking care of their animals. I also enjoy vegan cooking, biking, spending time with my rabbit, and generally enjoying the outdoors.
