Academic Job Search: Crushing Your Campus Interview (PhDs & Postdocs)

The faculty job search culminates in the one- or two-day campus visit. Learn strategies to prepare for the experience. In addition to your job talk, candidates will spend most of their time interviewing. Learn strategies to prepare for the experience, including interviews with the search committee, individual faculty members, the dean, and over meals. What questions can you anticipate? What questions should you ask? We will devote time to practicing your answers to commonly asked questions. Light lunch will be served.

Learn improvisational theater techniques to enhance communication skills for collaboration, mentoring, day-to-day conversations, presentations, or job searches. *Note*: this is a highly participatory workshop involving a lot of movement around the room and interaction with other grad students.

Interview Lab for Students Looking Beyond Academia (PhDs & Postdocs)

The Interview Lab is an interactive meetup with the aim to provide you the opportunity to learn about and practice interviewing techniques for jobs outside of Academia. Learn what employers are looking for in an interview and how to handle difficult questions. We’ll discuss and practice how to market the many skills and experiences you’ve gained during your graduate studies or postdoc and you will work with peers to develop the questions you want to ask.
