Designing the Professional Mini Workshop: Ideate and Prototype Your Career: Session 2

In this highly interactive, two-session workshop, you will apply the innovation principles of design thinking to the "wicked problem" of designing your life and vocation in and beyond Stanford. This workshop offers you the opportunity to approach these lifelong questions with a structured framework and work out your ideas in conversation with your graduate peers.

Participation in both sessions is required. The workshop is highly experiential and participants are expected to be on time and prepared for each session.

Winter Quarter TA Orientation

Each quarter, VPTL hosts a TA Orientation to help prepare graduate students to teach at Stanford. This event is highly recommended for all new TAs and is also open to returning TAs, postdocs, and other members of the campus community.

At the TA Orientation, you will be introduced to strategies for:• Effectively leading discussions• Using digital engagement tools• Holding office hours & grading

Each TA Orientation includes a video and Q&A session with representatives from Stanford’s major policy offices.

Management Matters: Session 2

Management Matters is a comprehensive, three-session workshop focuses on simple principles and guidelines that, once learned, can make the process of managing others enjoyable and effective, and help you succeed in whatever career path you choose.

Session 2: Making Expectations Clear

Clear expectations are the basis for all effective management and, remarkably, are as crucial to managing “up” as to “down.” We will build on the first session to determine how to establish clear expectations with people of different styles and in different roles.
