Tressie McMillan Cottom is an award-winning Associate Professor of Sociology at Virginia Commonwealth University and a faculty affiliate at Harvard University’s Berkman Klein Center for Internet and Society. Her work has been recognized nationally and internationally for the urgency and depth of her incisive critical analysis of technology, higher education, class, race, and gender.

Jia Tolentino, a staff writer at the New Yorker and the author of the widely acclaimed essay collection Trick Mirror, will join Stanford’s English professor Mark Greif for a conversation about her craft and careerFormerly, Tolentino was the deputy editor at Jezebel and a contributing editor at the Hairpin. She grew up in Texas, went to University of Virginia, and received her MFA in fiction from the University of Michigan. Her work has also appeared in the New York Times Magazine, Grantland, and Pitchfork, among other places. She lives in Brooklyn.

Cultivating Healthy Relationships: Session 3

Learn how to build healthy relationships in graduate school and in life.

Apply psychological, sociological, and cultural perspectives to investigate the questions, “What is a healthy relationship?” and “How do I know if my relationships are healthy?” In this interactive multi-day workshop you will explore the structures of healthy relationships, learning about communication styles, attachment, attunement, individuation, cultural scripts, gender roles, and power dynamics.
