- Eligibility: Incoming Doctoral Students (including PhD students in their first quarter)
- Period: Summer and Autumn quarters
- Duration: Three quarters, beginning Autumn quarter. (Fall quarter applicants will complete two quarters).
- Amount Awarded: Quarterly stipend
The Thrive Program provides a supportive, cohort-based community for first-year PhD students, emphasizing growth as a researcher, peer mentorship, personal well-being, and career exploration. Thrive provides up to three quarterly stipends in Autumn, Winter and Spring to support research, conference travel and professional development ($1,000 per quarter). Thrive fellows commit to participate in quarterly structured workshops, meetings with peer mentors, faculty seminars, and cohort-based programs that facilitate a smooth transition to PhD career at Stanford.
Program Participation Requirements
- Two workshops/events per quarter
- Two meetings with your Thrive peer mentor per quarter
- One faculty seminar per year
Application process
Incoming first-year PhD students are eligible to apply.
Application requires the following
- A completed online application (via link that will be available here after April 27, 2026).
- A brief response (no more than 250 words) to the following questions
- What motivates you to participate in the Thrive program?
- What do you hope to gain from your participation in the Thrive program?
