Zaith Lopez

Zaith Lopez is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Anthropology. His research interests include drug addiction and treatment, phenomenology, and the construction of masculinities. Under the mentorship of Sharika Thiranagama, he is examining drug treatment in male-only residential rehabilitation centers in Tijuana, Mexico. His ethnographic research analyzes drug treatment as a social and gendered process– how male drug addicts socially construct, respond, or negotiate what it means to be a recovered man during the drug recovery process. He earned his B.A. in anthropology from UCLA after transferring from San Diego City College.
