Vanessa Shumsky (née Jorion) (she/her) joined VPGE in 2013 as the Educational Programs and Finance Coordinator to provide day-to-day administrative and logistical functions to support educational programs. Vanessa transitioned to the Assistant Director of Educational Events and Programs to coordinate, plan, and execute events relating to Professional Development, Academic Guidance, Interdisciplinary Learning, and Diversity Initiatives. She directly supports programs as Stanford Graduate Summer Insitute (SGSI) and DARE (Diversifying Academia, Recruiting Excellence Details) Fellowship Program.
Vanessa received her BA in Art History from University of California, Irvine and her MA in Museum Studies from San Francisco State University. She began her career working in museum education and developing community connections to strengthen visual arts programs in Los Angeles. Previously working at the USC Fisher Museum, Orange County Museum of Art, Craft and Folk Art Museum, de Young Museum, and Nantucket Historical Association.
Outside of work, you can easily find Vanessa hiking around the Santa Cruz Mountains with her family or hosting brunch with her trusty Belgian waffle maker.
