Since 2018, my research has focused on how to govern AI in ways that are safe, fair, and globally cooperative. My PhD research compares emerging AI regulations around the world—including in the US, EU, China, Brazil, and Canada—to understand overlaps and blind spots. I am building a global framework that helps lawmakers, civil society, industry leaders, and the public make sense of this complex and often fragmented legal landscape. I also study how to increase civil society’s participation in shaping AI regulations and how to reduce the environmental impact of AI systems. I am particularly focused on three urgent challenges: ensuring everyday people—not just tech executives—have a voice in shaping AI regulation; addressing AI's growing environmental footprint; and preventing a fragmented patchwork of global rules that could undermine cooperation. This work matters because we are at a critical moment—the AI rules we create today will shape technology's impact on society for decades. By translating complex legal frameworks into accessible insights and tools for democratic participation, my research helps ensure AI development centers public accountability over corporate power.
