Rebecca Shi

As a PhD student in the Neurosciences Program at Stanford, I study the cell biology of neurons, focusing on the molecular mechanisms of how a neuron creates a highly branched dendrite. I have enjoyed teaching in various settings throughout my time as a graduate student, including leading classrooms for the Brain Day middle school outreach program, tutoring AP Biology and Calculus, and most recently co-teaching a course at Stanford on Understanding Techniques in Neuroscience. I am passionate about making biology accessible to students, and teaching the scientific process (“how we know” what we know). I am looking forward to the PFP program as a way to both learn additional pedagogy strategies and explore a possible career at a teaching-focused undergraduate institution.
