Linguistics

Omer Korat

I have completed my BA and MA in linguistics in Tel Aviv University. During my studies in Tel Aviv, I focused on formal semantics. I wrote my MA thesis with Professor Fred Landman, titled “Semantic Shifts in the Nominal Domain”. During my MA, I have spent a semester in the Institute for Logic, Language and Computation at the University of Amsterdam, expanding my knowledge on the interface between logic and language. Following the completion of my MA degree, I started my PhD studies in the Stanford linguistics department. Here, I have been working with various faculty members, including Chris Manning, Dan Jurafsky, Paul Kiparsky, Cleo Condoravdi, Chris Potts, and Dan Lassiter. In addition to continuing my research in formal semantics, during my time here I have also been conducting corpus studies of semantic questions, attempting to address them using statistical modelling. I am currently working towards my dissertation, combining my experience in both formal and empirical approaches to meaning.
