Nia Walker

Nia Walker is a PhD candidate in Biology and based at Stanford’s Hopkins Marine Station. Nia is interested in understanding how diverse organisms function in normal and high stress environments. She uses genomics and physiology applications to study climate change resilience. Her current research is focused on identifying what makes corals “strong” by studying thermal resistance and recovery mechanisms. Nia holds a bachelor’s degree in Organismic and Evolutionary Biology and a minor in English from Harvard University. Outside of research, Nia engages in science communication, first-generation/low-income (FLI) and people of color (POC) mentorship, writing poetry and prose, exploring the outdoors, and playing the violin.
