Recent advancements in the fields of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) have enabled a rich variety of new technological capabilities. I focus on pushing these state-of-the-art theoretical capabilities in deep learning, statistical machine learning, and optimization, with an eye to applications to healthcare and biomedical problems. For example, our lab focuses on inducing improvements in medical policy changes at a national level by using clinical trials data at a massive scale. My research, in particular, aims to identify novel treatments, expedite promising therapeutics to approval, and quantify the disparate effects of treatments across demographics that are underrepresented in clinical trials, such as women and African-Americans.
