I am interested in exploiting advanced materials to deliver oxygen and nutrients to ischemic cardiac tissue, as well as prevent pericardial adhesions following surgery. I am developing supramolecular hydrogels and other polymeric materials to regenerate cardiac tissue following ischemic insult. These materials can also serve as a mechanical barrier to prevent surgical adhesions. I enjoy working at the interface between material science and cardiothoracic surgery. The clinical need regarding heart disease and post-operative adhesions motivates me to engineer new technologies and solutions. My goal is to exploit these materials to engineer translational applications for advanced cardiac regenerative medicine and innovative anti-adhesion solutions.
