Lorelay Mendoza Grijalva
Lorelay is a PhD Candidate and NSF GRFP Fellow in Civil and Environmental Engineering. She explores how wastewater can be a source of valuable products and investigates ways to recover them. Her research develops tools for wastewater epidemiology and electrochemical separations to learn about COVID-19 infections within communities and detect contaminants in water. Lorelay is a community college transfer student and earned her BS in Civil and Environmental Engineering from San Diego State University where she was an NIH Maximizing Access to Research Careers (MARC) scholar and Sally Casanova scholar. She is passionate about demystifying pathways to STEM for underrepresented students and can be found hobby hunting in her spare time.
