Who is actively invited to experience and make music? Societal norms which dictate the ‘who’ and ‘how’ of creating and appreciating music have shaped the design of nearly every object involved in music, from concert halls and musical instruments to streaming service catalogs and software user interfaces. My practice is centered around disability, accessibility, and interactivity in musical experiences. I work as a researcher, musician, and designer to co-create tools, technologies, and art with fellow members of the disabled community in a way where concepts from critical disability theory can be actively queried, leading to the creation of more just and inclusive musical experiences. I explore these questions through a variety of mediums including audio-to-visual translation, vibration, music-personalization, and digital games.
