Leonardo Barleta

I’m a PhD candidate in History at Stanford and am interested in social, economic, and environmental history of Latin America. My research focuses on the formation of Brazil’s territory during the colonial period, especially in the 17th and early-18th centuries, and the integration of the Brazilian backlands to the Portuguese empire. I’m also interested in digital humanities and spatial history. In the PFP program, I hope to learn more about the challenges and opportunities of community engaged teaching and professional life in diverse academic environments.
