Karishma Bhagani

Karishma Bhagani (she/her) is a producer, dramaturge, and theatre-maker from Mombasa, Kenya. She is a Knight Hennessy Scholar and a PhD candidate in the department of Theatre and Performance Studies with a minor in African Studies and Feminist, Gender and Sexuality Studies. Karishma is keen on contributing to the development of a sustainable creative economy within East Africa, as well as sharing African stories around the globe. She has worked with various community-based organizations and served as a Strategic Consultant for the LAM Sisterhood in Kenya. She was also the associate producing director of the Nairobi Musical Theatre Initiative and the Associate Artistic Director for the Tebere Arts Foundation and the Kampala International Theatre Festival in Uganda. Additionally, from 2019-2022, Bhagani was a fellow at the Georgetown Lab for Global Performance and Politics. Bhagani was a cultural consultant for Goddess: The Musical, and produced Theatre for One: Nairobi Edition in conjunction with the Arts Center at NYU Abu Dhabi and Octopus Theatricals in New York. She graduated from New York University (NYU) with a B.F.A in Theatre and a B.A. in History.
