Jennifer Altavilla

I am a 4th-year PhD candidate in Educational Policy. A former elementary and middle-school teacher, I now study professional development for teachers of English learners. Specifically, I study how schools differentiate professional development programs, and how those policies impact the ways in which teachers differentiate instruction. During the summer, I work as an instructional coach and Dean of Faculty for Breakthrough Silicon Valley, a nonprofit that prepares underserved middle and high-school students for college and career.
