About

I am a PhD candidate in the English Department, specializing in early medieval English literature. My dissertation examines the function of personal names as a literary device in Old English, paying particular attention to the ways in which medieval name usage differs—sometimes quite subtly—from the modern norm. As a teacher, I’m interested in developing strategies to make the past feel present for my students, while also rigorously separating past realities (or educated conjectures, as is often the case) from modern preconceptions. I’m excited to broaden my teaching horizons in the Preparing Future Professors Program, and I hope to learn, among other things, how to translate the difficulties of past and present into a wider variety of classroom settings.
