About

Harper Keenan is a doctoral candidate in the Graduate School of Education at Stanford. His dissertation examines the functions of elementary school history education by studying the teaching of Spanish colonial history in California elementary schools. By analyzing textbooks and other curricular materials, classroom instruction, and museum-based education, Keenan explores how history education for young children may shape their understandings of the past and present. His broader research interests include elementary education, the teaching of history, and queer pedagogy.
