Ginny Isava

Ginny is a 4th year PhD candidate in Geological Sciences. Her research uses potassium and argon isotopes to study the local link between erosion of the southern Coast Mountains on mainland British Columbia and the deposition of sediments in the Nanaimo Basin on eastern Vancouver Island. She is also exploring the plausibility of plutons in the U.S. Pacific Northwest serving as a later extraregional source for the Nanaimo Basin. Ginny’s fascination with geology is matched by her affinity for teaching and mentoring. In addition to her PhD work, Ginny is completing a PhD Minor in Education. As a former Mellon Mays fellow, she strives to create an inclusive academic environment and increase diversity in the geosciences. In her spare time Ginny volunteers as an instructor for Geokids, an outreach program that introduces local students to earth science through hands-on educational activities designed around rocks, minerals, fossils, and soil.”
