Graduate School of Education

Gabriela Gavrila

I am a fourth year PhD student in the Graduate School of Education, and also a Creativity in Research Scholar (CIRS) with the Hasso Plattner Institute of Design (d.school) at Stanford. In my research, I study universities as organizational actors and the impact of universities on urban development; my focus is at the intersection of sociology, organizational studies and urban/environmental planning.  Prior to Stanford, I worked for the Association of Commonwealth Universities in London, UK, and before that I was a Project and Policy Analyst at UC Berkeley. I enjoy teaching students about the evolution of educational institutions across cultures and geographies, and using a design-centric approach to explore the future role of universities in society.
