Biomedical Informatics

Emily Flynn

I am a 6th year PhD candidate in Biomedical Informatics working with Dr. Russ Altman. I received my B.A. from Smith College with a double major in Computer Science and Biochemistry and a concentration in Biomathematical Sciences. My graduate research focuses on examining sex and hormone-related variability in genetic and gene expression data. I have worked on projects examining sex bias in publicly available gene expression data and identifying genetic variants with sex-specific effects on testosterone level. In addition to research, I am passionate about teaching and mentoring, and spent a summer as a technical mentor for the Stanford Data Science for Social Good program. I have also been involved in course development and as a teaching assistant for a biomedical informatics core course and an introduction to R course for biologists.
