Carbon dioxide (CO2) capture is a critical technology for slowing global warming. Existing solutions for CO2 capture are energy-intensive and expensive, especially for direct air capture and point source capture from dilute gas streams, and adoption of these technologies is far below international benchmarks. My work aims to connect materials chemistry and electrical engineering to achieve economically viable systems for CO2 capture, through the cooperative development of novel adsorbents and reactor architectures. I plan to develop inexpensive materials—conductive substrates functionalized with various CO2 binding sites—for highly selective CO2 adsorption and efficient regeneration by induction heating.
