Avery Krieger

Avery Krieger is a PhD candidate in the School of Medicine. To understand his research, consider hangriness. When hungry, one’s mood is impacted, food can smell more delicious, and the hangry person might not even realize what’s happening! Avery studies fruit flies to unpack how internal states like hangriness impact the brain and behavior. His BA is in Cognitive Neuroscience from the University of Pennsylvania. He’s worked with animals his whole life, both as a researcher and rehabilitator. Black, first-generation/low-income (FLI), and proud, he also dedicates his life to activism, his photography business, and living uncomfortably in the wilderness.
