Hasso Plattner Institute of Design (d.school)

The d.school is a hub for Stanford faculty and students of all levels and fields to learn and practice the principles of design thinking. Design thinking is a methodology that integrates business and management principles with traditional mechanical engineering and product design practices like prototyping. The d.school brings multidisciplinary teams of faculty and students together with public and private organizations in order to address complex problems, with an emphasis on empathy, collaboration and iteration. Although the d.school does not grant degrees, students from all seven schools are invited to take classes to supplement their degree program. Most courses are by application only.
