English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) is Stanford's English Language Program for non-native English speaking graduate students. During the academic year ESOL classes are limited to matriculated graduate students (undergraduates by special request only). Courses are only taken for academic credit and are aimed specifically at improving English language proficiency for graduate study and professional development. ESOL courses are offered in specialized topics like academic discussion, listening comprehension, pronunciation, and advanced writing. Additionally ESOL offers TA screening, and administers Stanford's English Placement Examination for entering grad students. More information can be found on the Language Center website.
