Table B: Dual Award
Incoming Students
For years one, two, and three, 3-year nationally competitive fellowships, specifically NDSEG, NSF, and Hertz, are supplemented by SGF, CCSRE, or Zhang funds to VPGE levels of support. For the standard SGF, CCSRE, or Zhang configuration, SGF, CCSRE, or Zhang supplementation is for minimum full-time enrollment (8, 9, or 10 units) for four quarters each year, and the approved annual VPGE stipend level. Full SGF, CCSRE, or Zhang support is provided in years four and five.
Students with a dual award in the Graduate School of Education or School of Engineering with the Modified Configuration have SGF, CCSRE, or Zhang support for the first five years of graduate studies, less summer quarter of the fifth year, or 19 quarters. Quarters 1-3 are paid at the maximum tuition rate (11-18 units), and quarters 4-19 are supplemented or paid to the 8-10 unit rate.
Current Students
Budgets for current VPGE Graduate fellows awarded a three-year nationally competitive fellowship are arranged as a five-year award, with the years of full VPGE and VPGE-NCF support reordered. Summer starts and other length awards are arranged in consultation with VPGE staff.
Other Fellowships (not listed on the table)
Receipt of an outside award and the SGF, CCSRE, or Zhang typically extends the length of a fellow’s guaranteed support, up to a maximum of five years. Budgets for other awards (e.g., Fulbright, NSERC, American Meteorological Society) are arranged in consultation with VPGE staff.
NOTE: NSF-SGF/Zhang recipients are expected to enroll in 8-10 units all quarters, including summer quarter.
