About Limited Submission Fellowships

Limited submission fellowships, also known as limited awards, are externally sponsored fellowships that undergo an internal evaluation and selection process. Stanford has a limited number of nominations for each fellowship defined by the external funder. These fellowship opportunities allow Stanford graduate students to collaborate with professionals in their fields. Graduate students apply directly for consideration or are nominated by Stanford officials.

External Fellowships requiring University Nomination

Limited Submission Fellowships - Stanford Nomination

For the following fellowships, graduate students must be nominated by a Stanford official. Each award may have additional eligibility criteria the call will be forwarded to  and schools interested in nominating a Stanford graduate student.

Limited submission awards with school nomination follow a general nomination and review process. VPGE will send out the call to the school dean's offices. Each school will forward the call to their faculty and will complete an internal review of the nominations. Once each participating school makes their final decisions, VPGE will choose the finalists to nominate.

The general process is outlined below.

     1. Schools nominate eligible graduate students.
     2. VPGE receives nominations and nominations undergo review by committee.
     3. University finalists are submitted to the external fellowship organization for evaluation and selection.

Students interested in applying should contact the representative from their school dean's office for more information. When an advisor and student are in different schools, use procedures determined by the dean's office of the student's degree program.
