When, Why, and How to Improve your Writing Style
Event Details:

Looking for ways to better engage your readers? Feeling confident about your written content but less so about your form? Wishing you knew how to make your writing more clear, coherent, and concise? This workshop—appropriate for writers across disciplines--will focus on when, why, and how to write with attention to style. We’ll discuss strategies for recognizing where your writing could be improved, methods for finding stylistic models to emulate, and exercises—both quick and sustained—you can perform during your revision process. During the workshop we’ll work on style and “flow” at the level of the sentence, the paragraph, and the complete argument. Participants are encouraged to bring an academic text (article, book chapter, etc) in their discipline that is written in a style they admire, and a piece of in-progress writing (academic or otherwise!) for hands-on individual and small-group activities.
Facilitator: Dr. Nissa Cannon
