Hartley Conference Center, Mitchell Earth Sciences Building

Regsitration deadline: Friday, Oct. 31, 2014

This workshop addresses the student-faculty advisor relationship. You will learn negotiation and communication skills that will help you work effectively with your advisor.

In particular, we will practice interest-based strategies designed to help you find common values and goals with your advisor, set expectations, avoid or resolve conflicts, and work out optimal solutions together. Stanford students report that this workshop provided tools that significantly improved their working relationships with their advisors, and helped increase productivity and reduce stress. These approaches will also help you throughout your career.

Developed by the Graduate School at Michigan State University, these interactive workshops have been presented to students and faculty at universities around the country for the last decade
