12:00am PST

This event is open to:

Working in teams or with groups is much like negotiating in a multi-party environment. In this single-session workshop, learn about how negotiation can help you positively influence the teams you work with.

Most professionals spend a significant amount of time in meetings and working in teams or groups for a variety of purposes – essentially “negotiating” in a multi-party environment. Many report that this can be a frustrating experience. The purpose of this interactive and highly practical workshop is to explore the dynamics of negotiating in teams or multi-party situations by increasing awareness of common group needs and problems and the roles we play in groups that can support or detract from the work of the team. Our goal is to improve how we contribute to group process and help create an atmosphere of safety and respect. We will also discuss the pros and cons of different decision-making methods such as voting and consensus and build a better understanding of how to design and manage a group negotiation process in facilitative fashion. The interactive class methodology will combine discussion with exercises and a roleplay.

Open and relevant to graduate students at any stage in any discipline or degree.
Space is limited. Due to the workshop's interactive format, full participation in entire session is required.

If you are accepted to this workshop you must confirm your place by submitting a Student Participation Fee Agreement, which authorizes VPGE to charge $50 to your Stanford bill – only if you do not fully participate in the event. You will receive a link to the Agreement and instructions if you are offered a place.
