Do you feel like you write the same cover letter for every job? Do you have trouble making a resume when they seem to look so different from a CV? Do you read job postings and wonder how best to express your experience? This Job Search Lab: Resumes and Cover Letters will help you understand what an employer is looking for, and how the cover letter and resume documents play a role in this process, so that you can tailor your applications to stand out. We’ll look at job postings that you have an interest in applying for, and start figuring out what your resume and cover letter should look like in response. The session will begin with some general tips and guidelines about resumes and cover letters, and then small group feedback sessions so that you can see multiple ways for expressing yourself and improving your delivery. A career coach will be available for questions. In order to be best prepared for this lab, please bring 3 copies of a resume, cover letter, and job posting to the session, or email Urmila Venkatesh at firstname.lastname@example.org day prior to the session. Note that copies of your resume and cover letter will be made available to the other group members in order for us to workshop them.
