Designing the Professional Mini Workshop: Ideate and Prototype Your Career: Application Deadline

Tuesday, January 16, 2018 (All day)

Application is closed.

In this highly interactive, two-session workshop, you will apply the innovation principles of design thinking to the "wicked problem" of designing your life and vocation in and beyond Stanford. This workshop offers you the opportunity to approach these lifelong questions with a structured framework and work out your ideas in conversation with your graduate peers.

Designing the Professional Mini Workshop: Ideate and Prototype Your Career will take place on two consecutive Thursdays: Jan. 25 and Feb. 1 from 4:30 – 7:30 PM. Due to the workshop's limited size and interactive format, full participation in both sessions is required.

Learning Objectives

By participating fully in this program, you will:

  • use the framework of design thinking to tackle the design of your life and vocation
  • understand how implicit theories of passion, interests, and opportunities affect your approach to designing your life and vocation
  • gain insight into your strengths and goals through reflection, exercises, assessments and facilitated discussion
  • develop three alternative plans for the next 5 years, here at Stanford and beyond
  • share experiences and perspectives with students from many disciplines and backgrounds in order to better understand your own points of view

Program Description

In this highly interactive, two-session workshop, you will apply the innovation principles of design thinking to the "wicked problem" of designing your life and vocation in and beyond Stanford. • learn an approach to plotting a pathway to meaning-making and success as a professional
  • use the framework of design thinking to tackle the design of your life and vocation
  • generate ideas for evaluating different career domains and multiple careers (e.g., the academy, the marketplace, or ...?)
  • gain practical skills and participate in exercises for investigating alternatives and career "prototypes"
  • develop a community of peers with whom to share your ideas and hear how others are thinking about these important issues and questions
  • draft three plans for the balance of your graduate work and the first season of your professional life following Stanford
