Careers Centering Equity in Civil & Environmental Engineering

The Equity & Engineering Practice Speaker Panel will discuss the importance of environmental justice in the context of engineering practice, with a particular emphasis on Civil & Environmental Engineering. The event will showcase perspectives on social position and the epistemological bases for work in environmental engineering, community organizing in engineering work, and the speakers’ experience with bringing engineers into justice work. Speakers include Khalid Kadir, Lecturer at UC Berkeley, Emma Robbins, Navajo Project Director at DIGDEEP Water, and Anthony Kinslow, Lecturer at Stanford and CEO of Gemini Energy Solutions. 

This event will highlight potential career paths in Civil & Environmental Engineering that center equity and environmental justice. The event will showcase different topics and perspectives in Civil & Environmental Engineering including community-based engineering and water rights, equity in structural engineering, affordable housing challenges, and solutions for global homelessness. Speakers include Joanna Ng, Director of Global Operations at New Story Charity, Kaitlin Harris, Field Engineer at DIGDEEP Water, Tyler Pullen, Graduate Student Researcher at the Terner Center for Housing Innovation at UC Berkeley, and Tiffany Hwang, Bridge Engineer at COWI, Chair of Structural Engineering Engagement and Equity(SE3) Committee of the Structural Engineers Association of Northern California.
